If you’re getting notices of new credit accounts being opened under your name that you don’t recognize, freeze your credit

Someone who has your personal information can use it to try to open fake credit accounts under your name. If you receive notices of new credit accounts being opened that you aren’t aware of, immediately notify your credit card company. You’ll also want to go on all three major credit bureaus’ websites — Experian, Equifax and TransUnion — and freeze your credit on each one. Be aware that there may be some circumstances that prevent you from freezing your credit online, in which case you may need to mail a written request. Finally, notify the police that you may be a victim of attempted or completed fraud
