Why is sharing your location on Facebook risky?

Real-time posts can expose:

The Pew Research Center found that 71% of U.S. adults reported using Facebook in 2025, according to its survey of 5,022 adults. That enormous audience makes deliberate privacy choices especially important.

Who can see a Facebook check-in?

Visibility depends on the audience selected for the post. A check-in shared publicly may be visible beyond your friends, while a friends-only post may still reach contacts you barely know.

Instead of checking in while you are at a venue:

4. For vacations, consider waiting until you return home.

How do you stop Facebook from accessing your precise location?

Your post audience controls who sees what you share. Your phone’s app permissions separately control whether Facebook can access location data.
